Hackbloc hacktivist collective - researching positive hacktivism

About The Hackbloc Collective

Mission Statement

Our mission is to research, create and disseminate information, tools, and tactics that empower people to use technology in a way that is liberating. We support and strengthen our local communities through education and action. We strive to learn from each other and focus our skills toward creative goals,  to explore and research positive hacktivism, and to defend a free internet and free society!

Points of Unity

  • Encourage the use of free software and responsible,  active use of technology in our communities.
  • We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious fundamentalism of all creeds. We embrace the full dignity of all living beings.

  • Actively confront censorship and oppression whether it occurs online or in the physical world.
  • Engage in creative and traditional direct action to advance struggles for liberation.
  • Do not condemn any action on the grounds that it is illegal alone.
  • Practice and teach good security culture.
  • Work to ensure the continued freedom and independence of the internet.

Organizing Model

  • Local hackbloc collectives are autonomous collectives, not responsible for the actions or statements of any other collective
  • Local hackbloc collectives must abide by the international points of unity.
  • The hackbloc-core collective maintains the site and associated services.
  • if a international action or statement is to be taken, a spokes-council meeting of all the hackbloc collectives will happen. All decisions at the meeting will be made by consensus.
  • All hackbloc collectives can contribute to the main site and posts will be published without censorship except regarding spelling and grammar.  All posts will be reviewed by at least one other person in the hb-core collective before being published and that person can block a post if they feel that they should. They must then bring it up at the next meeting for decision and review.
  • People may join the hackbloc core collective via nomination by a member of hb-core and consensus from the other members.
