Why you should donate

Donate to hackbloc to help us keep it running! It costs $50 per month just to run this site, not to mention all the awsome services and the zine that we give out, (plus all of the time that we put into it)! The donation is through paypal so if you are uncomfortable with paypal, contact us and we can tell you where to send us cash money!

What we will use your money for:

  • Paying for the upkeep of the server
  • Printing zines to give away
  • Special Projects
  • Printing Propaganda
  • Gold Rims

Since hackbloc isn't a non profit your donation is not tax deductable, but everyone who donates will be listed on our thanks page (unless of course you don't want to be listed) and you will have our eternal gratitude, and we will try to send you some cool shit if we can. (free zines, shwag, computer parts, etc.) You can however rest assured in knowing that your money will go directly into making cool shit happen and not one cent will go into administrative costs or to paying someones rent, and thats pretty awsome!

Great Northwest Hackbloc to Lead Workshops on Security, Communications in Denver Next Week!

Oly Hackbloc to Lead Security, Communications Workshops in Denver Next Week!

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, December 22nd and 23rd, the Olympia Hackbloc (on tour!) will be leading a workshop series on security culture, computer security, encryption, and anonymity. These workshop is targeted towards activists, journalists, and members of the general public. We will also be giving a workshop on using Twitter as a communications system for actions. This system was used during the most recent RNC and the last two rounds of Port Militarization Resistance.

"This holiday season you have the chance to give a great gift to someone you love. That gift being security and peace of mind. This is a great chance for you to hone your skills and develop them if you feel overwhelmed by the topic. Two year ago I took Ringo's workshop and have taken one since then. Thats two and this one will be my third."

We are performing an upgrade of the server over the next few days, as of right now (saturday morning) the mailing lists and subversion are down, please bear with us until they are working again. We expect to have all services working again by the end of the weekend. Thanks for your patience.

Hackbloc Downtime is officially over

As many of you probably noticed the Hackbloc.org website (as well as all other hosted websites) were down on thursday and mail and mailing lists were out throught the weekend.  And then today our database was down.database was down.

This was all due to one of our sysadmins accidentally running the dreaded rm -rf /* command and deleting all of our bin, etc, and home directories before he realized what he had done and stopped the command.  I spent the weekend fixing it with the help of the other hackblocer's and now everything is back in working order.  The mail server and mailing lists are back as well.

Announcing User Submitted Stories

Hackbloc will now be accepting user submitted stories to our site.  We will be going over each story and publishing them if they are good.  And if they are really good we will use them in Hack This Zine.  We hope to see some good stories and find some excellent new writers for the site this way!  Some tips for getting published: Write cool stories about technology, hacking, activism, political theory or even geek culture.  You have read the quality and content of the stories we post, try and match that (it shouldn't be hard ;).  And don't forget to spell check! I can't stress that enough.  Also submissions of less than 10 words will be automatically deleted.

Problems downloading HTZ?

For anyone that has had problems accessing Hack This Zine the last couple days my sincere apologies.  A change which I intended to make it easier to browse the issues of hack this zine has actually made it harder to access the issues by sending up a permission denied error.   Anyway the problem is fixed now and you may download issues at http://hackbloc.org/zine   or you can browse them at http://hackbloc.org/etc/zine
