Happy 1234567890 day!

Today, Friday the 13th the unix timestamp reaches 1234567890.  This is a momentous occasion of 2 strange numbers coming together to be celebrated by geeks and possibly freak you out just a little bit!  I plan on celebrating by taking a shot of moonshine and a screenshot at the appropriate time.  Some are celebrating in bars all around the world.  How will you be celebrating (or how did you celebrate)?

Update: Whooooo!!!!!

Caution! Zombies! Ahead!!!

Someone in Austin, Texas hacked a construction road sign to warn motorists of zombies on the road ahead. Of course, they threw in a Call Of Duty: World At War reference as well.

And though it is a class C misdemeanor, it seems that the trick is actually rather easy to pull off. Gizmodo informs us that while most control pads for road signs are inside of lockboxes, the boxes are rarely locked and the passcodes used to protect the signs from hacking are usually the default "DOTS", or can be reset easily by holding down "shift" and "ctrl" while typing "DIPY" (this will change it back to "DOTS").

The Steampunk's Guide To The Apocalypse (Now in Italian!)

,

The Steampunk's Guide To The Apocalypse is a short book put out by Steampunk Magazine. It aims to provide basic information on how sustainable technologies and DIY, almost permaculture, projects could be implemented in a situation of total industrial collapse. Not only does the book talk about collection of water and materials from now unused buildings (assuming they haven't all been destroyed in riots and looting anyways), but it also debates the best places to make your post apoc home and lists pros and cons for the urban metropolis, small town, and wilderness.
